Hampton linebacker Qwahsin Townsel and slot/return specialist Romon Copeland have been named to the 2023 All-Draft HBCU Team, according to Gerald Huggins Jr., lead scout for Draft HBCU Players and a scouting assistant for the Shrine Bowl.
Huggins’ list includes 56 HBCU football players from across the country including Townsel and Copeland from Hampton.
Townsel was second in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) this season in tackles with 104. A second-team All-CAA pick, Townsel led the Pirates in tackles in both 2022 and 2023. A native of Egg Harbor, N.J., Townsel transferred to Hampton after playing at Villanova. A graduate, he set the Hampton single-game record with 18 tackles against Campbell on Oct. 7, 2023.
Copeland was Hampton’s leading receiver in 2023 with 29 receptions for 453 yards and two touchdowns. In addition, he returned 13 kickoffs for 284 yards and a score. The Chesapeake, Va., native returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown against North Carolina A&T on Oct. 28, 2023 in Hampton’s 26-24 victory over the Aggies and was named the CAA’s Special Team Player of the Week for his performance.
